Apple launches new ad format in the “Today” tab of the App Store

A Apple today has become the key in the way the adverts are displayed in the “Today” tab (“Today”) yes App Storeas announced by the company last month.

The new format can be seen on iPhones running iOS 16.4 (or later) and is currently not available on the iPad, according to 9to5Mac. In addition, as we found out, they have not yet been released in Brazil.

As already announced, ads are displayed at the beginning of the tab, below the featured card. The content itself is very simplified, consisting only of the icon and the name of the app, in addition to a brief description (assigned by the advertiser on the platform App Store Connect), as well as a label showing that it is an ad.

Still according to the 9to5Macbecause this new format is more concise, approving these ads is simpler — Apple, of course, still needs to approve the ad icon, name and caption.

Apple has also updated the ad guidelines preventing advertisers from using expressions like “Game of the Day” or “App of the Day” in the icon, name or caption. Furthermore, they cannot allude to prices, offers or other incentives that may induce the user to download the advertised app — and, much less, contain images or words considered violent, offensive, sexually explicit or inappropriate.

Ads in the “Today” tab of the App Store were originally implemented last year, and before that they were already available in other spaces of the store. In October of last year, the company was the target of criticism following allowing inappropriate advertisements, so that the display of some types of advertisements, such as gambling, was stopped.
