The tragedy occurred shortly following 9 a.m. in rue du Village, at the crossroads of rue Clairieux and rue Haut Hameau. A group of young cyclists were heading towards the village square, and it was the first cyclist who was hit by a truck entering the road.
The shock was extremely violent. The unfortunate cyclo was thrown several meters further than the impact. The rescuers who came on board an ambulance and an SMUR might not do anything for him: he died on the spot.
He is a 27-year-old man from Australia. Very strongly shocked, his companions were taken care of by the victim support unit in a room made available by the municipality of Celles.
