And the Brazilian police announced, on Tuesday, that 4 people were rescued off the southeastern coast of the country following they spent 13 days crouching at the helm of a ship sailing from Nigeria.
The federal police in Brazil said that the four people hid inside a cabin at the top of the ship’s helm, which is a part that is sometimes flooded, with the aim of entering the country by stealth.
She added that they were found by the crew of the ship flying the flag of Liberia. The ship set sail from Lagos on June 27.
A police official told AFP that the four were “in good health” and were not suffering from malnutrition.
A police statement stated that the four people “claimed to be Nigerians, but they did not have documents confirming their nationalities.”
The statement stated that they will remain in detention in Brazil until they are returned to their country.
