In October 2019, 39 people were found suffocated in a lorry on an industrial estate in Grace, Essex. 28 men, eight women and three children died tragically. With this, 11 people were punished in this incident.
The victims were people who had paid people smugglers for illegal immigration to the UK. The Romanian lorry driver was charged with 39 counts of murder at the Old Bailey Court. Judge Ganham stated in the judgment that they died due to suffering in the container lorry so that they might not even breathe.
The lorry driver faces four years and two months in prison for illegal immigration. It also turned out that the lorry driver was the right-hand man of the head of the human trafficking ring, Giorge Nika. Apart from Marius, four others were also charged in the mass murder case. Those between the ages of 15 and 44 were killed due to suffocation. They were coming from Paris to Bierne in northern France.
They were bought by the traffickers with the promise of a VIP route to Europe and a well-paid job. CCTV footage of them boarding a lorry from France to the Bulgarian port of Seeburg has come out. They then boarded a ferry to Purfleet on Thames in Essex. The case is that the temperature of the container in which they were traveling was 38.5 degree Celsius and they were getting very less oxygen and as a result they died due to suffocation.
