The former footballer and coach Philippe Garrot died on Tuesday at the age of 74. A red devil twice, the Liégeois defender had especially marked the spirits at Standard of the great era when he had notably evolved alongside a certain Eric Gerets.

Born in Verviers, he began his career at RCS Verviers before an adventure in Eupen. He then headed for the capital to play Daring, which then merged with RWDM (D1). It was then that he joined Standard in 1974. He played more than 200 matches there in six years.

He will still have a long stint in Beveren where he will win a Belgian championship title and a Belgian Cup. His career will end at Francs Borains following another brief stint at RWDM. Club where he will start his coaching career (during which he notably coached the Francs Borains and the RAEC Mons).

Three years ago, Garot went looking for a club to put on the crampons. He will have had the football virus in him until the end.
