Hackers have managed to get their hands on data from the Dutch navigation company TomTom. As with other UK companies a few weeks ago, the breach was carried out through the MOVEit platform, which the companies use to transfer data. The German subsidiary of ING bank was also the victim of a similar attack.
A spokesperson for TomTom meanwhile clarified that the “door had been closed”. No data that might have a negative impact for TomTom or its customers has been entered, he explains. However, the company does not want to specify the nature of the data collected by the hackers.
Cybersecurity specialist FalconFeeds tweeted that hacker group CL0P claimed a successful attack on TomTom. This Russian-speaking organization claims to have had access to 82 gigabytes of corporate data.
For its part, ING said that hackers had gained access to German customer data, including their names and account numbers.
Other banks in Germany were also reportedly affected, such as Deutsche Bank and Commerzbank. The hackers operated through the flaw in MOVEIt to get their hands on data that the banks had passed on to an external data service provider Majorel.
A few weeks ago, hackers recovered data from several users of the MOVEit data transfer program. Several companies that used the platform were exposed, such as airline British Airways, media group BBC, drugstore chain Boots and holiday park manager Landal.
