If it should not be released in the end until the winter of 2024, the film Thunderbolts will be entitled to the usual cross-marketing campaign on the side of comics with the launch – once more – of a new series devoted to this team of fake superheroes. The small volume of Jim Zub not necessarily having marked the spirits, it is up to a screenwriting team which has rather the wind in its sails at Marvel that we entrust the orders of this next ongoing. With a roster which, in a not at all curious way, is somewhat similar to what we will be able to see on the screens later.

Another raise for the Thunderbolts

Marvel announces the start of this new series Thunderbolts for the month of December 2023 with the scenario the prolific duo composed of Collin Kelly et Jackson Lanzing. The two have already worked together on the latest relaunch to date. Guardians of the Galaxy but especially on Captain America : Sentinel of Liberty and the crossover Cold Warin which the status quo of Bucky Barnes might evolve. And precisely: it is the Winter Soldier who will lead the new formation of Thunderbolts.

As a reminder, the concept of Thunderbolts initially comes to us from the 1990s. During the period Heroes Reborn who followed the crossover Onslaught, most of the Avengers were missing and the world was in disarray, until a new team of superheroes burst in. At the end of the first issue of this new series, readers discovered that beneath the masks and costumes of the Thunderbolts were in fact hiding Low and his Masters of Evil. Over the numbers, some of the converted super-villains then discovered a real desire to redeem themselves to become heroes.

Subsequently, several versions of the team were able to emerge, always with this spirit of taking characters with fairly violent characters (or less camped on the heroic ideal of the Avengers) to carry out perilous missions. Bucky Barnes here will lead a group made up of Black Widow (Natasha Romanoff), White Widow (Yelena Belova), Red Guardian, U.S. Agent, Shang-Chi, Sharon Carter alias Destroyerunder the orders of the Countess Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. In other words, a roster very close to the version that will be shown at the cinema at Marvel Studiosbecause you have to offer similar comics to people who will come out of cinemas, even though comic book publishers are not progressing at all at the same pace as cinema studios.

According to the description of the new series, the Thunderbolts will be sent by Allegra de Fontaine as a covert operations team (black ops) to target big bad guys like Red Skullthe Kingpin or even Doctor Doom. A lot of action on the agenda, with the designer on the artistic part Geraldo Borges (Nova) and a promotional variant of Mahmoud Asrar to be found below. Thunderbolts #1 will be released in December 2023.
