When practically everyone took it for granted that Arturo Vidal would stay at Flamengo until the end of the year, and that the only way to abandon Mengão’s discipline was to be seduced by a supposed interest from Inter Miami to reunite him with Lionel Messi —even when accepting that way would mean setting aside a lot of money -, on Monday followingnoon what no one suspected at the time was confirmed: the national midfielder verbally agreed to his arrival at Athletico Paranaense for the next eighteen months.
Vidal, of course, had delivered some clues in recent weeks. As never before in his career, he had barely added minutes and his relationship with Jorge Sampaoli —a coach who forgave him a serious indiscipline eight years ago to keep him in La Roja that broke history— was broken, to say the least. In the morning, a little spoiler: image and smile with Fernando Felicevich, accompanied by a “Ready for whatever comes”.
His departure from the carioca giant, by the way, caused a stir. In the local press, which he assures that his millionaire agreement with Furacão will stress the dressing room, and on social networks, with opinions on both sides. The majority, yes, supports that Vidal has left Fla: he did not have the role he wanted and will continue in a competitive league.
But there were those who entered with the iron anyway, and one of them was the former national team Leonardo Véliz. On his Twitter account, the “Chicken” lashed out at the now Paranaense player:
“Playing less than 10 minutes in a month, is it to take it into account? That is the real situation of Vidal in Flamengo. And he insists on being better than everyone. Pride blinds. Sampaoli is not an asshole, ”he opined.
Even in response to a follower’s comment, he stated that Vidal “was withdrawn, they gave him away to Barcelona at a sale price.” And then he completed: “He was imposed by black hands, Valverde – his DT – did not like it.”
Finally, in a second publication, the former Colo Colo striker insisted on his idea, although now in the supposed break between the footballer and his coach:
“A certain sports journalism knows the reason for the bad relationship between Sampaoli and Vidal. That ended badly due to facts known to all and inappropriate behavior of the player.
“DT took a load off his shoulders. He wants to win but without friendships or commitments from the past, ”he closed.
