Next year, the “Transparent” musical, which has just started in Los Angeles, is set to hit Broadway in a big way. Joey and Faith Soloway, the masterminds behind the Amazon series, are also responsible for the book and music.

In 2019, the Amazon Prime Video dramedy Transparent said goodbye to viewers with a musical special. Appropriately, the series has now been adapted as a musical stage play and has been on show since June as A Transparent Musical at the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles. Next year the production should be noisy Playbill land in a big way on the famous Broadway in New York.
Joey and Faith Soloway, who created the series, contributed both the book and music, and teamed up with three-time Tony winner Eva Price (Dear Evan Hansen, & Juliet) for the “Transparent” musical. MJ Kaufman (“Jagged Little Pill”) was also involved in the writing.
What is the “Transparent” musical regarding?
The musical version centers on Ali Pfefferman on a personal journey of self-discovery – portrayed by Gaby Hoffman on the show and by Adina Version (Only Murders in the Building) on stage. Ali’s Jewish family from Los Angeles has many secrets that are gradually confronted following one parent comes out as transgender and goes by the name Maura. Jeffrey Tambor was the central character in this case, while Daya Curley took on the role of Maura on stage.
Other roles include Liz Larsen as Shelly Pfefferman, Zachary Prince as Josh Pfefferman, Sarah Stiles as Sarah Pfefferman, Kasper as Ezra, Peppermint as Davina and Murphy Taylor Smith as Rabbi Raquel
