A collision occurred this morning around 8:20 a.m. between a truck and a van at the Quatre Rois crossroads, a junction formed by rue de Lille and rue de Comines in Wijtschate, a sub-municipality of Heuvelland near Comines-Warneton. The vehicles caught fire and the fire spread to several houses. The truck driver died.
A ball of fire
According to the mayor of Comines, “The impact generated a ball of fire which spread to six houses. Several residents were absent and only a few minor injuries were deplored among those who were present. All these people are being taken care of in a center” further specified Alice Leeuwerck, “Where they receive psychological help and where rehousing solutions are put in place”.
One of the two drivers died. The other is seriously burned and his vital prognosis is engaged. A large police and fire department is on site to manage the situation.
