If you don’t know what to wear (or what not to wear) because of the sheer heat, nudist beaches are more than convenient. We provide inspiration for everyone who loves freedom, tan lines hate or want to escape the heat wave, and present nude beaches in Europe where you can do that celebrate being naked.

Nudist fans appreciate the combination of sun, sea and freedom – and all without swimwear.

1. Nugal Beach near Makarska, Croatia

Tucked away and quite remote, near the Croatian town of Makarska, Nugal Beach is just the thing for a naturist beach resort. The white, fine pebble beach nestles along a rocky coast next to a forest area and lies directly in front of the sparkling blue Adriatic Sea.

The best way to reach the hidden bay is following a half-hour walk through Osejava Forest Park. Alternatively, you can travel by boat to the dream beach. Important to know: You won’t find a beach bar here. So pack enough drinking water and a picnic in advance.

2. Es Cavallet in Ibiza, Spain

The free body culture has long been in Ibiza – no wonder the island was already popular with hippies in the 1960s. Even today, there are still some nude beaches on the Balearic island. For example, Es Cavallet, just ten minutes’ drive from Ibiza Town and Playa d’en Bossa.

Just getting here is worth it. Because on a clear day you can see Ibiza Town, the neighboring island of Formentera and the salt fields of Las Salinas on the horizon. The white sandy beach with the often high waves is natural and partly lies in the dunes, which ensures more privacy. At the southern end of the beach is the well-known gay bar Chiringay Ibiza.

How to behave on the nudist beach

First time at the nudist beach and unsure how to act? Here are a few tips:

Keep your distance from other beachgoers when choosing a spot.

Do not exchange physical caresses.

During a conversation, look the other person in the eye and don’t stare at anyone.

Do not photograph or film anyone without permission.

Don’t talk regarding other people’s bodies—even if it’s meant as a compliment.

3. Red Beach in Crete, Greece

The picturesque Kokkinos Ammos beach, better known as Red Beach (i.e. red beach), is located 20 minutes from the village of Matala in Crete. Not surprisingly, the beach owes its name to the reddish-brown color – a visually stunning contrast to the blue water.

The nudist beach is only 300 meters long and can only be reached following a descent. Good shoes, drinking water and food are a must if you make your way to the hidden beach.

4. Buhne 16 on Sylt, Germany

Some of the most beautiful nudist beaches can be found not only in the south of Europe, but also in the north, for example on the island of Sylt – even if the temperatures are slightly cooler here. The Buhne 16 beach section in Kampen is particularly well-known for this.

Naked or clothed: everyone is welcome here. The beach is both a nudist area and a textile beach. If you feel uncomfortable, you can always slip back into your bathing suit or change the stretch of beach.
