The president Alberto Fernández announced tonight that he will present a military personnel bill written together with former Defense Ministers “of different political orientations”, to “repeal the decree law that has been in force since 1971” which – he considered – “does not reflect fundamental issues”.

This project aims enable “mechanisms that facilitate and encourage the passage of category through continuous training” and “contemplates the principle of equality and non-discrimination of people, regardless of their gender, sexual, economic or social orientation.”

Earlier Fernández announced that this month the members of the Armed Forces (FFAA) will receive a 42% increase in their salarieswhich responds to the “second tranche of the hierarchy” announced by the president last year.

Headlining the annual Armed Forces camaraderie dinner, The President stressed the importance of “that the men and women who watch over the defense of the homeland receive salaries commensurate with their responsibilities.

attended the meeting Defense Minister Jorge Taiana and other ministers of the national cabinet; the head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Armed Forces, Juan Martín Paleo; the heads of the Army, Guillermo Pereda; from the Navy, Julio Guardia, and from the Air Force, Xavier Isaac, heads of the security forces; officers from the three forces, national legislators and special guests.

In his speech, Fernández pointed out that the Military Personnel bill, which was carried out jointly with former Defense Ministers of various political orientations, “contemplates the principle of equality and non-discrimination of people, regardless of their gender, sexual orientation , economic or social”, and that “reflects fundamental issues that are part of the current regulatory framework of defense.”

Among them he mentioned “the political government of National Defense, the principle of joint military action and the commitment to human rights.”

remembered that upon assuming the Presidency, he proposed “to put an end to the political neglect of our officialsnon-commissioned officers and soldiers” whose salaries “suffered not only a significant delay, but a large part of them had the condition of being non-remunerative sums that affected rights in terms of Social Security”, and listed what was done during his administration to “put in value the role” of the Armed Forces.

Besides, “The budget barely covered the payment of salaries and daily maintenance of the forces and their equipment, the military industries faced a growing process of abandonment to which no one paid attention”.

Fernández highlighted the National Defense Fund

Faced with that scenario, they were “returned to the necessary tools to recover the prestige and the social recognition they deserved to guarantee the defense of our sovereignty and natural wealth, the freedom and dignity of our people”, for which in 2021 he signed the National Defense Policy directive that inaugurated “a new cycle of planning of the national defense”.

Among these tools, he mentioned as “fundamental” the generation of the “National Defense Fund (FONDEF)”, to “allow over time to ensure better equipment and thus be able to increase our capacity for deterrence and sovereign control of the territory.”

“We seek to promote State policies that virtuously link the national defense industry with scientific and technological development, favoring federalism,” he added.
