In-house corruption, a debt union, arms deliveries from the EU to Ukraine and enlargement with a crowbar are the wrong way to go
Vienna (OTS) – The “Eurobarometer” published yesterday – an opinion poll of over 26,000 citizens in the 27 EU countries – shows that EU skepticism in Austria has continued to rise. Only 35 percent of Austrians see the EU as a whole as “positive”, and 30 percent are of the opinion that the EU is simply “negative”. For FPÖ Federal Party Chairman Club Chairman NAbg. Herbert Kickl, this finding is no coincidence: “People acknowledge with their opinion the snooty and self-satisfied politics of this European Union, which is headed by an EU Commission that has never had to face an election and has developed a life of its own in recent years, going in a completely wrong direction.”
Kickl emphasized that EU policy with Ursula Von der Leyen has contributed a lot in recent years to the fact that the image of the Union has suffered so much. He recalled the irresponsible monetary policy: “The EU has become a debt union. In doing so, it acts once morest its own principles and saddles future generations with a rucksack of debt that can no longer be borne. At the same time, many high-ranking EU politicians are suspected of corruption. The socialist vice-president of the EU Parliament is said to have allowed herself to be bribed by Arab states, and the European People’s Party was also searched on suspicion of corruption. All of this does not inspire confidence.”
But what also poses a threat to the security of Austria and other member states is the participation of the EU in the war in Ukraine. “The money is easy here. More and more and heavier weapons are being sent into the war zone by the EU. The neutral Austria is also financing the war here via the vehicle of the EU peace facility – a blatant violation of the perpetual neutrality of our republic. This needs to end now. It’s time to end the bloodshed. The EU must put pressure on both warring parties to finally strive for a negotiated solution,” demanded the FPÖ federal party chairman.
And last but not least, the EU enlargement process must finally be scaled back, as the Austrians also see in the “Eurobarometer”, where only just under a third of those surveyed would like to admit further states into the EU. Kickl: “The expansion fantasies of the EU leaders must finally come to an end. Von der Leyen & Co should also tell Turkish President Erdogan, who now apparently wants to blackmail Sweden’s NATO membership with EU membership. Turkey’s accession to the EU is out of the question – quite apart from any NATO haggling.”
Overall, the EU is well advised to withdraw to its core areas and not to interfere permanently in national affairs. “The EU is a union of sovereign countries. There will never be a United States of Europe – and that’s a good thing,” Kickl concluded.
