Against the background of the recent developments in the south over the two tents and Israel’s annexation of the northern part of the village of Ghajar, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri confirmed that the two tents are located on Lebanese land and what is required of the international community is to oblige the enemy entity to implement Resolution 1701 and to withdraw from the northern part of the village of Ghajar, the Shebaa Farms, the Kafr Shuba hills and the checkpoint the B1.
Speaker Berri’s speech came during his reception at the headquarters of the second presidency in Ain al-Tineh, President of the Editors’ Syndicate, Joseph Al-Qusaifi, and members of the Syndicate’s Council.
And regarding the Taif Agreement and the desire of some to turn once morest it, he affirmed his absolute rejection of any harm to this agreement, and said: “We lived and died until we achieved this agreement, and I say to whoever wants to change it, “Let a sane person sit, it is better for him.”
Speaker Berri pointed out that the calls of some to change the regime put Lebanon in the midst of unimaginable dangers, asking: “Have we implemented the Taif in order to call for its change? Let us implement this agreement with all its clauses, especially reformist ones, especially administrative decentralization, an election law outside the sectarian restriction, and the establishment of a Senate “.
In the file of the Presidency of the Republic, Speaker Berri reaffirmed that there is no alternative but to consensus and dialogue, pointing out that internationalization, with all due respect to Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi, requires internal consensus, as internal dialogue is an option that should not fall out of the calculations of all parties.
He added that he was waiting for the return of the French presidential envoy, Jean-Yves Le Drian, in order to build on what was required in the presidential file in terms of dialogue, its place, form and time, or in terms of setting a date for a new session to elect a president of the republic.
In response to a question regarding the crisis in the governance of the Banque du Liban, Speaker Berri said: “There is a principle in all countries of the world that necessities allow for prohibitions, and there is a constitutional text that talks regarding the narrow meaning of conducting business.
Speaker Berri indicated that “the prime minister has chosen another position, and although I adhere to my position on implementing the constitution in the narrow sense of a caretaker job, I will respect what the prime minister announced in this regard in terms of neither appointment nor extension.”
In turn, Al-Qusaifi delivered a speech in which he reviewed the bitter reality and the pervasive evil that lurks in Lebanon at various levels, politically and financially, and the successive collapse of institutions.
On the other hand, Speaker Berri also received the Head of Mission of the “UNIFIL” forces operating in southern Lebanon and its Commander-in-Chief, Major General Aroldo Lazaro, accompanied by the Political Adviser and Deputy Commander-in-Chief, Herve Leacock.
A presentation was made of the general conditions within the scope of UNIFIL forces’ work, especially following the Israeli escalation of its attacks on Lebanese sovereignty in the Ghajar and Shebaa farms areas and the occupied Lebanese hills of Kfar Shuba.
