This Sunday at the 2023 Martín Fierro Awards, APTRA organized a tribute to Antonio Gasalla. The 82-year-old comedian is going through a very delicate moment of health and from the production they decided to review his entire career with Marcelo Polino and Susana Giménez.
“My friend, a humor icon of this country. He has created characters that will remain forever in the memory of Argentines. He, with his gift of people, knew how to penetrate deeply. Through his characters, he spoke regarding health, education, bureaucracy and old age, ”said the journalist at the beginning of the tribute.
And then, on the verge of tears, he added: “Antonio is television, he loves television. I want to share this moment as a friend and journalist and tell him: Thank you Antonio for your infinite talent, for so many laughs and for everything you gave us.”
When the audiovisual report finished, the audience stood up and applauded the actor with great emotion. Susana Giménez went on stage to look for the award and with a broken voice she expressed: “I have the honor of receiving this from Antonio who was with me for so many years, who made me spend the most beautiful days of my life.”
The host highlighted the work of her colleague and recalled that there was never a set script between the two because what mattered was genuine laughter, as well as their versatility to interpret different characters. “He is an incomparable, masterful actor, there will be no other like him,” Giménez launched.
At the end of her speech, Susana broke down in tears and expressed: “Antonio of my heart, I wish you were watching… I don’t know if you’re watching this, but I would like to tell you that you earned it and that no one will forget you in your life. Never more. I love you Anthony.”
