After the announcement of the President of the Republic who has decided not to run for the next elections, the National Executive Secretariat of the Socialist Party where Aminata Mbengue Ndiaye, Serigne Mbaye Thiam and Alioune Ndoye were the most noticed, made a press release for demonstrate its roots in Benno, even concealing the question of a possible candidacy of the Socialist Party. The Socialist Initiative – Reflection – Action does not intend to comply with this decision. In a press release signed this Sunday, IRAS considers as irrelevant the content of the exchanges resulting from the last national executive secretariat (SEN), held on July 5, 2023.
The initiative also wonders by what right and what legitimacy, six members of the SEN can avail themselves of and arrogate to themselves the prerogatives of the authorities of the Party and give “carte blanche” to the Interim Secretary General to decide to put an end to our Party for another 5 years by depriving it of a candidacy?
By what right and what legitimacy can the SEN arrogate and leave full powers to a person who is not a member of the Socialist Party, even President of the Republic, to choose a candidate for us?
By what right and what legitimacy can the SEN arrogate and decide on the non-candidacy of the Party in the next presidential elections?
The IRAS, consistent in its approach and backed by the regulatory texts of the Socialist Party, reaffirms its firmness in working for one or more Socialist candidates in the presidential elections. It also works for the reunion of the large socialist family and the plural left which adheres to the
conclusions of the National Conference and the values of ecology.
The IRAS demands the holding, without delay, of an extraordinary congress to choose a dynamic and ambitious, to renew and rejuvenate all the authorities of the Party. She also welcomes this historic decision by the Head of State, which allows for the first time an election in Senegal in which the outgoing president will not take part.
