Sugary drinks such as lemonade, energy drinks or juice spritzers damage your teeth – especially if you sip them over a long period of time.

(dpa/tmn) – “If at all, you should drink one glass at a time,” advises Dirk Kropp from the proDente initiative. If the teeth are not constantly washed with the sugary drink, it is less harmful. It can also be helpful to rinse with a little water following drinking soda, energy drink and the like.

The sugar contained will pass through in the mouth bacteria split. This creates acids that attack tooth enamel and cause tooth decay. The longer these acids act on the teeth, the greater the risk of tooth decay.

Brushing your teeth immediately following consuming sugary drinks isn’t necessarily a good idea, says Kropp. As a rule, in addition to sugar, they also contain acids that attack the enamel.
