International top riders will once once more be pedaling hard in Braunau this year. For the 24th time, the ARBÖ cycling club is organizing the “Braunauer Radsporttage”. As a media partner, the OÖ Nachrichten are right in the middle of things once more this year instead of just being there.
The well-rehearsed team of the ARBÖ cycling club around the long-term organizer Erwin Hörtl has once more put together a varied racing program that should inspire young and old and encourage them to take part. The cycling days will open with the children’s cycle race, which will start at 4 p.m. on Saturday, August 26th. The start is at the town square. The competition for the little ones, which was only launched two years ago, is very important to organizer Hörtl.
“It’s important to us to get children excited regarding cycling,” says Hörtl. On the one hand, the children should be made tempted to move on two wheels under real competition conditions. On the other hand, there will be no official rating. “You don’t deliberately force competition,” explains Hörtl.

Every participant in the children’s race receives a medal, and there is also free ice cream. Almost 50 children took part last year. The organizer expects an even higher number of starters this year. For a symbolic entry fee you are part of the big sporting event, which continues on Saturday following the children’s race with the competition for hobby drivers. It continues with the Austrian Cup races for women as well as for elite, U23 and amateur drivers.
Fast-paced races
“Everything that has status and reputation in Austria will be our guest,” says Hörtl, who expects a traditionally fast-paced race. “On average, our drivers are on the road at 46 kilometers per hour. If the weather cooperates, we can look forward to extremely fast races once more.” In any case, in recent years, Petrus has always been on the side of the cycling days.
The top stars of the cycling scene continue the hunt for the trophies on Sunday in the road race, which starts at 11 a.m. on the Schlossberg in Ranshofen. On a distance of 130 kilometers the drivers fight for the price of the company BORBET Austria.
