“The Lord be with you!” Roland Gatterwe, chairman of the Big Band Formation Horn, introduced the concert in the garden of the Horn rectory. To continue following a second’s pause: “I would have said Father Albert.” But he stayed more in the background with the unexpectedly large number of visitors, including Mayor Gerhard Lentschig, to enjoy the swing twilight shopping to the excellent sounds of the big band under the direction of to listen to Alexander stuff.
“God must be a big band fan,” Gatterwe joked regarding the wonderful summer weather and reminisced a little when he mentioned his time as an altar boy (“50 years ago – or something like that!”) and later revised it: “I was even chief altar boy and was allowed to make the payment.”
It was he who gave the impetus for this concert in order to raise funds for the urgently needed and costly service of the organ in the parish church. Thanks to catchy tunes like “Ol’ Man River”, “Pennsylvania 6-5000”, “American Patrol” or “In the Mood” the purses were relaxed and the cash register might also be fattened up with the buffet carefully managed by Isabella Bucher. For this, organist Leopold Raab thanked the big band, who played big, as well as the visitors who were willing to donate.
