The Democratic Party of Korea met with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Secretary-General Rafael Grossi, who is currently visiting Korea, on the morning of the 9th to convey his position once morest the discharge of contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant in Japan.
The meeting was attended by Rep. Won-Sik Wi, Won-Sik Yang, Won-Young Yang, and Jae-Jung Lee, and co-representatives of the Nuclear Safety Research Association, Byung-Seop Han.
On the IAEA side, Secretary-General Grossi and Chief Advisor to Secretary-General Diego Candano Laris were seated.
The meeting was held at the request of the IAEA on the 6th, following the IAEA report that Japan’s plan to discharge contaminated water meets international safety standards.
It is said that the committee conveyed public concerns regarding the discharge of contaminated water to Secretary-General Grossi and raised issues regarding the limitations of the IAEA report.
When Secretary-General Grossy said in a press interview yesterday that “you can even swim in contaminated water,” the Democratic Party criticized it, saying, “You are claiming to be an ambassador for nuclear wastewater discharge. You cannot help but doubt the fairness and neutrality of the IAEA.” .
