Washington ∙ Good news for those waiting for permanent residency in the US. The advisory committee of the US President has approved the proposal to take back 2.3 lakh green cards that have been issued since 1992 and are unused and given to the needy. This is in a situation where the number of applicants on the green card wait list has increased a hundredfold in the last 2 decades.
These withdrawn cards have been issued since 1992. A portion of these is intended to be allocated in addition to the 1,40,000 new green cards issued annually.
The idea was proposed by Ajay Bhuttoria of the US President’s Advisory Council on Asian American, Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Affairs.
