Some Twitter users even speculated that the Threads logo design resembles some characters from the Tamil alphabet, a language spoken in India and Sri Lanka, while others joked that it looks like an earthworm being devoured by the bluebird of Twitter, which pleased Elon Musk.

On the other hand, the true clarification was published by the official account of Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram who is also in charge of Threads, who published a message explaining the real meaning of the logo.

The Threads logo, in Instagram Sans, is inspired by the @ sign, which stands for someone’s username, individual, and voice. It was designed by @rourkery, @jezburrows and others. It’s a single broken line, inspired by the loop seen in the app when the thread starts.

In this way, the logo is a representation of the “@” symbol, which you must type in Threads to quote someone in a post, but it also represents expressiveness. The logo was also inspired by the Instagram Sans font, which was launched in May 2022 and can now be used in publications on the Meta network.

On the other hand, Mosseri says that the logo was also inspired by the Tamil alphabet, more specifically by the character “ம”, which is represented in the social network in a personalized way. The idea is to symbolize the connection between people and the ability to connect with them with your words, your voice.
