FPÖ sharply criticizes changes to the Juvenile Court Act

Vienna (OTS) – In his contribution to the debate in the National Council yesterday, the liberal member of the National Council, Christian Lausch, sharply criticized the black-green plans for the release of mentally abnormal offenders who were sentenced as adolescents or young adults from prison measures and the associated amendment to the Juvenile Court Act : “It is a step in the right direction that, also under pressure from us Liberals, the Green Minister of Justice Zadic moved away from her insane plan to release mentally abnormal lawbreakers on September 1st. However, the fact that case conferences should decide whether serious violent offenders, including many sex offenders, rapists or child molesters, can be released into freedom is not enough and poses a danger to our population. For us liberals, however, the protection of our citizens has top priority !“

According to Lausch, the Ministry of Justice did not involve the two prisons in Asten and Göllersdorf in the creation of this law, which he himself was told during a visit to both prisons: “But the employees of these prisons are the real experts because they work with them every day these mentally abnormal lawbreakers have to work. In addition, the promised extension of the Göllersdorf correctional institution was decided upon, but no groundbreaking has yet taken place. Similarly, the minister is neglecting her ‘homework’ at the Asten correctional institution, where the extension has already been completed but has not been put into operation due to a lack of staff – even though the LKH Mauer is not far away.”

The Liberal MP also recalled that this change in the law had been prepared in 2015 and 2016 under an ÖVP justice minister. “All in all, the protection of our population must be the priority when dismissing mentally abnormal lawbreakers. This means that the persons concerned must be prepared for freedom carefully and monitored in a forensic discharge center so that it can be ensured that they do not pose any danger. There’s no way you’ll be able to do that with ‘huff-bang’ dismissals through case conferences! Because you also have to keep one thing in mind: Behind each of these perpetrators there is one or even more victims who need special protection!”, explained NAbg. Christian Lausch.
