Twitter gained a strong competitor this week with the launch of Threads and now Elon Musk’s social network is preparing new features. Soon it will be possible to make and receive voice and video calls in the app. The novelty was indicated by Andrea Conway, Senior Product Designer at Twitter.
As we can see in the image below, Twitter should allow users to make video calls from the direct messages tab, just by opening a conversation with someone. The layout is very similar to that of Facebook Messenger and Instagram.
Despite the similarity, the screenshot shared by Conway shows that the application should not yet support advanced functions of competitors such as group calls or screen sharing.
The designer also does not mention whether the feature will be released to all users or will only be available to Blue subscribers, which is more likely, as the social network has concentrated its news only on paying users.
Some of the features that are only available to Blue users include a blue verified badge next to the name, reduction in ads, editing tweets, posts up to 25K characters with italic and bold formatting, navbar customization, and support for two-factor authentication via SMS.
