After the killing of a 62-year-old Dutch woman in the Carinthian municipality of Eberndorf (Völkermarkt district), the suspect, the woman’s 69-year-old partner, cannot be questioned for the time being. He was still recalcitrant and “it’s not possible to talk to him,” police spokesman Mario Nemetz told APA on Saturday. The preliminary autopsy results confirmed that the victim died as a result of massive violence.
Nemetz said that the murder weapon was most likely a Stanley knife. This was found in the couple’s apartment, which is only a few meters from a police station. The injury pattern on the corpse would also match this knife. However, the motive was still in the dark on Saturday: the suspect cannot be questioned for the time being and is now waiting in the prison for his detention test, the spokesman said. The alleged perpetrator is expected to be taken into custody on Saturday.
It is still unclear whether the 69-year-old intentionally caused a car accident on the southern motorway following the killing in order to take his own life. It is also unclear whether the Dutchman was drunk at the time of the crime or at the time of his accident. A blood test was arranged for him following the crash. The result is not yet known, said Nemetz.
On Friday, the investigators asked around the couple: the two Dutchmen had been inconspicuous – even at their previous places of residence there had been no incidents that might indicate violence within the relationship. The couple only moved to Eberndorf at the beginning of the year.
The 62-year-old Dutch woman was found dead in the kitchen of her home on Friday morning. Hours earlier, her partner had an accident on the southern highway. He is suspected of having killed his partner and possibly attempted suicide followingwards. A farewell text message from the man to his daughter led to the body being found in the first place. In it, the 69-year-old wrote that he and his mother were already dead when they read it.
