The municipal council of this Monday, July 3 took action on several decisions concerning the future work of the brainoise municipality. In the sights of the authorities, soft mobility, savings in public lighting and nurseries.

For 2023, 1002 new streetlights will be installed in Braine-l’Alleud. These will be with LED lighting, which is more economical and ecological. These 1002 streetlights correspond to a significant part of the nearly 6100 streetlights included in the municipality. By the end of the year, two-thirds of public lighting will be LED. The areas concerned are the city center and more particularly, the surroundings of the station which have not yet been modified. The same is true between rue pergère and rue Ernest Laurent. The sections of avenues Alphonse Allard, Albert 1er and chaussée Reine Astrid as well as rue du Ménil will also have their new public lighting. Braine is not the only entity whose lighting is reviewed because Lillois will see the rest of its public lighting, not yet switched to LEDs, become so. For the work, the municipality will pay nearly 460,000 euros in equity following an intervention by ORES, the network manager, of more than 10% of the total price.

In addition to lighting, soft mobility will also be reviewed in several brain arteries. The chaussée d’Alsemberg, between the intersections of the drève des Pins and the rue d’Abeiche, will soon include new sidewalks for both pedestrians and cyclists. For the alderman of Works and Mobility, Henri Detandt, it is “for us, our cycle highway (cyclostrade). We didn’t have the subsidies for this road which seems essential to us, so we are doing it on our side”. To carry out this modification of the section, nearly 2.3 million euros are planned. Rue de Lillois, linking Ophain to Lillois, will also experience this same type of transformation. ORES will take advantage of this at the same time to redo the gas and electricity installations.

For smaller works, the Villa du Parc du Paradis will have a new car park on the side of the fishing pond. In the same order, several small road repair works will be carried out throughout the municipality. But for the moment no precise places because the municipality is waiting for the preliminary work of applicants like ORES: “We take the opportunity to put back to what is below. We are not going to redo the roads to start once more later,” said the alderman. For these various repair works, a budget of 300,000 euros was budgeted and accepted by the entire municipal council.

The council also agreed to the installation of future bins for organic waste. Rather than waiting for the waste collection services to pick them up, it will be possible to dispose of them in dedicated terminals next to the glass bubbles. These bins will only be accessible to Brainois, the opening will be done via a badge.

Renovation and construction of nurseries

The big news in Braine-l’Alleud is the arrival of a new crèche. This will be built at rue de la Légère eau. The authorities are planning 56 new places. Nearly two million euros are allocated to construct a building that meets current energy standards: insulation and the installation of a heat pump. Finally, the La Ribambelle crèche is going to be renovated. The old building will be insulated and new heating will be installed: “It will be more comfortable for the children, especially in hot weather”. For the costs of this renovation, the planned budget is around one million euros.
