The State University of Sonora will soon have a degree in medicine, specializing in rural communities, assured its rector Armando Moreno Soto.

He commented that there is an agreement with the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla for the general and community medicine study plan with the aim of training specialists to bring their services to remote and difficult-to-access rural areas of Sonora.

Armando Moreno Soto specified that, for admission to this new educational space, the average will not be the main factor to be evaluated, profiles that have the vocation of serving and providing services to rural and low-population communities will be sought.

“We are going to choose people who, in addition to having a good GPA, have a little heart to stay in the rural area for at least one season,” he said.

He said that to announce the new educational space, an authorization from the university is needed with the agreement, but it is planned to summon students for August and start with the program.
