As part of the ÖTV state championships (Austrian Tennis Association), the charity doubles tournament took place today under the patronage of the state sports councilor Heinrich Dorner on Günter Kurz’s tennis court
The “win2day” ÖTV national championships and the ÖTV wheelchair tennis national championships are currently being held on the tennis courts of the Sport-Hotel-Kurz in Oberpullendorf. Today, Friday, July 7th, 2023, a charity double tournament is taking place, with the proceeds going to the umbrella organization of Burgenland’s women, girls and family counseling centers (DAFF). The association was founded in 2008, the sponsoring associations of all Burgenland women’s counseling centers and women’s vocational centers are members of this association. The “DAFF” represents the approximately 40 employees of the member institutions. Sports Provincial Councilor Heinrich Dorner said at today’s press conference: “I would like to thank the organizer Günter Kurz, the Burgenland and Austrian Tennis Associations for the good cooperation, they have been able to set up a top event here in Oberpullendorf for 15 years. It is a pleasure I personally particularly appreciate that this year the income from the charity doubles tournament will go to the women’s counseling centers,” says Dorner.
In his speech, the Provincial Councilor for Sport pointed out that the existing tennis academy “created a good drive and a special dynamic in Oberpullendorf and we have become the tennis mecca of Burgenland here,” said Dorner. He thanked ÖTV and BTV as well as the sports director of the tennis academy Wolfgang Thiem (father of tennis pro Dominik Thiem). ÖTV President Martin Ohneberg thanked the good cooperation between the state of Burgenland and the sponsors, but also the organizer Günter Kurz: “Without his initiative, it would not have been possible to organize Austrian championships here in Oberpullendorf for 15 years. There is always one great interaction between popular and elite sport,” said the President.
The proceeds from the charity double tournament will go to the member institutions of the Burgenland women’s counseling centers and women’s careers centers this year. Chairman and managing director Doris Horvath reported on the organization: “The women’s advice centers have been around for 35 years, ‘DAFF’ has existed since 2008. I would like to thank the organization that we can help needy women, girls and families with the income from the charity tournament .” Stephan Sharma, CEO of Burgenland Energie, sponsors’ representative on site, reported in his function as President of the Burgenland Association, which was founded in 2022 as part of the Special Olympics: “It really is an event of superlatives, in addition to the professionals, the wheelchair tennis state championship Inclusion is also practiced. They also deliver top performances on the pitch,” said Sharma and concluded: “Let’s live the motto ‘Together for a smile today, tomorrow and in the next few days'”.
