Researchers from the University of Luxembourg revealed that a small number of adolescents monitor their weight, while the vast majority of them do not do so, and do not care regarding their weight in the first place, and underestimate a good diet or adhere to a healthy lifestyle.
The researchers relied on data collected from 41 countries around the world, which included more than 700,000 adolescents.
These results prompted experts to worry regarding the increase in obesity rates among children and adolescents further. Experts also confirmed that this trend among children and adolescents will negatively affect measures to combat obesity and combat it worldwide and will make influencing children and persuading them to reduce their weight more difficult than before.
In this context, the nutritionist, Dr. Yara Radwan, said in an interview with “Sky News Arabia”:
Today’s teens live in an environment that encourages overweight and obesity, due to foods that are high in calories. Teens who live in an environment where obesity is prevalent treat it as normal. Eating disorders increased during the period of spread of Covid-19. Extreme diets with adolescents may cause counterproductive results.
