Airbus Delivers 72 Commercial Aircraft in June, Boosting Order Book and Meeting Annual Objectives

Airbus delivered 72 commercial aircraft in June, allowing it to make up some of the delay on its annual objectives, announced Friday the aircraft manufacturer whose order book was boosted by the Paris Air Show.

The European industrial giant, affected by the difficulties of some of its 18,000 suppliers (raw materials, components, labour, etc.), was struggling at the start of the year to reach the production rate necessary for the manufacture of the 720 devices promised to the market in 2023.

But the trend has improved significantly in recent months. Already in May, Airbus had delivered 63 planes, following 54 in April.

These deliveries are a reliable indicator of profitability in aeronautics because airlines pay most of the bill when they take possession of the planes.

Despite the 72 aircraft in June, delivered to 48 different customers, Airbus will have to maintain a steady pace if it is to achieve its goal. In six months, he has handed over 316 aircraft to the companies: he still has at least 404 to produce in the second half.

The question of rates is all the more crucial as Airbus saw its order book dramatically inflate during the Paris Air Show, a major meeting of the air sector at the end of June near Paris, recording 902 gross orders.

More than half (500) come from the contract signed with IndiGo, an ambitious low-cost Indian company, for single-aisle A320neo family aircraft. This order, announced on June 19, is the largest in terms of volume in the history of civil aviation.

It is broken down into 125 A320neo and 375 larger A321neo, according to Airbus statements available Friday, while its client did not want to give details during Le Bourget.

Another Indian carrier, Air India, contributed 250 aircraft to Airbus’ order book growth last month, for 140 A320neos, 70 A321neos and 40 A350 widebody aircraft.

Sixty A320neo family aircraft have also been ordered by an unnamed customer, while 30 have been acquired by the Saudi carrier Flynas.
