26-year-old drowned in a bathing lake near Linz

A 26-year-old from Linz drowned Thursday followingnoon in Pleschinger See in Linz’s neighboring municipality of Steyregg, the Upper Austrian state police reported in a press release on Friday. She suspects that the man overestimated his swimming skills. The Syrian was with several family members at the popular bathing lake. Witnesses observed that he swam out regarding 30 meters alone.

Suddenly he clapped his hands and shouted something before he went under. A woman sounded the alarm. A fire department diver rescued the 26-year-old. He was resuscitated on the bank by an emergency doctor and then taken to a hospital in Linz, where he might not be saved.

The police reinforced their forces during the search and rescue of the sunken swimmer because his family members were in an emotional state of emergency. They kept running into the water without being able to swim. The officers had to hold her back. A Red Cross crisis intervention team cared for the family.
