The situation on the labor market in Switzerland varied slightly in June, remaining at a very low level of 1.9%. The number of people registered with the regional placement offices (ORP) fell by 2,977 people to 85,099, the State Secretariat for the Economy said on Friday.

Compared to May, the proportion of jobless held the multi-year floor of 1.9%, said Friday the State Secretariat for the Economy (Seco). Over one year, a decline of 0.1 percentage point was observed. We have to go back more than twenty years, to 2001, to find a lower monthly unemployment rate.

Adjusted for seasonal variations (CVS), the labor market indicator stabilized at 2.0% (on a monthly basis).

For youth unemployment, i.e. the 15-24 year old category, the Seco counted 94 fewer registrants (-1.2%) over one month, to 7,463 people. As for seniors, 25,021 people appeared in the statistics, which represents a drop of 1,125 unemployed (-4.3%).

The drop also affected job seekers, whose total reached 150,618 people (-2,850 compared to May). The number of vacant places experienced an anecdotal decline (-76) to 51,731 units, according to the press release.

The Seco also provides the partial unemployment figures for the month of April. The reductions in working hours affected 1,498 people, an increase of 48% (or 484) on a monthly basis. The number of companies remained stable at 74 and the number of hours lost fell by 5.5% to 50,983 units.

In all, 2,128 people exhausted their rights to unemployment insurance benefits during the month of April, specifies the Seco.
