Cooper Webb Leaves KTM Mid-Season: What’s Next for the Supercross Champion?

Cooper Webb is leaving KTM in the middle of the season and effective immediately. Both sides have agreed that they will end the cooperation following 5 years by mutual consent. In the official statement from KTM, both sides thanked them for the successful cooperation. Webb won two Supercross titles with KTM in 2019 and 2021 and has 21 wins in 52 races in the 450 class Supercross.

The split came suddenly, but not entirely unexpectedly. Webb has previously been associated with Triumph in the US but all indications are now that Webb will join Star Racing Yamaha.

The timing of the breakup in the middle of the season is unusual. The fact of the matter is that Webb was injured in a practice crash early last week, preventing him from competing in RedBud. “KTM had an agreement with Webb for the Supercross championships, but following his crash in Nashville we also supported Cooper Webb in motocross. But we weren’t able to prepare enough for the motocross season,” KTM said in a statement.

US sources report that Webb is said to have been dissatisfied with the chassis components. Speculation continues as to when and where Webb will return. “See you soon in the races,” he wrote on Twitter. From this, some observers deduce that Webb might consider entering the Supercross World Championship. The next few weeks will show where Cooper Webb’s journey is headed.
