The Boali Falls are one of the most famous tourist sites in the Central African Republic. The site is also home to a zoo that welcomes nearly a thousand tourists each week, according to its tourist guides. While the Central African Republic is facing a drop in its tax revenues, these falls might constitute a source of potential revenue for the State.

From our correspondent in Bangui,

With his back turned to the valley, his gaze fixed at 50 m in height, Rosmon Zokouè observes the falling waters with an air of wonder. “It’s spectacular to me. Boali Falls are one of the wonders of the world. The Boali falls represent a place of worship and rituals for the inhabitants, but also, it represents all their wealth, because all the activities here are concentrated around fish farming, but also fishing. “, he describes.

Before entering the site of the falls, there are conditions to be met. Prices are displayed on signs at each intersection. Dressed in white shirts and black pants, a dozen guides are there to lead the tourists.

Antony is one of the guides: “As you see, Boali waterfalls are amazing with six 50m high waterfalls. The reception facilities are very good and the price is affordable. We welcome nearly a thousand visitors each week. Children pay 1 000 CFA francs and adults 2 000 CFA francs. We have rooms, food at affordable prices. Unlike Central Africans, foreigners must pay 5 000 CFA francs to visit the site. »

Investing for tourism

The site also has a zoo with a few animals on display, such as boa snakes, monkeys, birds, caimans, turtles and even parrots. Melissa Yérimo who comes from Bangui made a great discovery. “It is really a great wealth for our country, the Central African Republic. Every time we arrive, we want to see it, we want to visit, so suddenly it’s a tourist spot.»

At the top of the waterfalls, there is a restaurant made of wood and apartments. Boali Falls can be a source of revenue for the state. But according to economist Didace Sabone, much remains to be done.

« I believe in making investments. First of all, investments in terms of roads, reception infrastructures are needed. There must be restaurant chains, not to mention a reliable telephone network“, explains Didace Sabone, who adds: “Tourists, when they come from all over, they would like to be connected to the world. Bank branches will also have to be set up. The State and the regulator can draw up a plan for the city and through this plan encourage private investment. »

Looted in 2013 then rehabilitated in 2021, the Boali Falls site is a potential source of revenue for the country.
