A bug sending notifications regarding security issues affected Windows 11 since March, it has only just been fixed by Microsoft teams.

While Microsoft teams are constantly working on the next Windows 11 updates, it regularly happens that they are accompanied by various bugs. Even if they are very often quickly corrected, the bug caused by that of last March resisted for a long time.

The problem was caused by the Windows Security application, which sent a recurring notification, warning that Local Security Authority (LSA) protection was disabled. Fortunately, this problem was a false positive that affected versions 22H2 and 21H2 of Windows 11. Note that another problem had been reported in March, but which was accused of lowering SSD performance.

An ineffective temporary solution before a permanent fix

Microsoft said at the time, “After installing the ‘Microsoft Defender Antivirus Antimalware Platform Update – KB5007651 (Version 1.0.2302.21002)’, you may receive a security notice or warning stating that ‘Protection Authority local security is disabled. After the protections are activated, your Windows device may persistently tell you that a restart is needed. Important: This issue only affects “Microsoft Defender Antivirus Antimalware Platform Update – KB5007651 (Version 1.0.2302.21002)”. All other Windows updates released on March 14, 2023 for affected platforms (KB5023706 and KB5023698) do not cause this issue. »

The workaround Microsoft offered was as follows: “If you have enabled Local Security Authority (LSA) protection and restarted your device at least once, you can disable warning notifications and ignore any additional notifications prompting you to restart. You can verify that LSA protection is enabled by viewing the Event Viewer using the information available here. Important: Currently, we do not recommend any other workarounds for this issue. Unfortunately, this temporary solution had remained unsuccessful, as the problem kept coming back.

Microsoft now announces that the issue has been permanently resolved by its teams and that the fix is available in an update to Windows Security Antimalware Platform KB5007651, version 1.0.2306.10002. It can be installed manually by checking for available updates, or it can be installed automatically during the next automatic update.
