The champion in 2020 and 2021 finished the sixth mountain stage, which extended for 145 km between Tarbes and Cotteret in the Pyrenees, 24 seconds ahead of Vingaard, but the runner-up was enough for the latter to take the lead in the overall standings from Australian Jay Hindley.

Hindley fell to third place in the overall standings following finishing Thursday’s stage sixth, 2 minutes and 39 seconds behind Bogachar, who rose to second place, 25 seconds behind Wengaard, following achieving his first victory in this version and the tenth in the Tour de France.

On Friday, the riders will enter a flat stage that extends for a distance of 170 km between Mont-de-Marsan and Bordeaux.
