Edy Tavares: Real Madrid Center Faces Obstacles in Returning to the NBA

NBA – The Real Madrid inside has reportedly received a multi-year offer, but the buyout clause in his current contract remains the main obstacle to his return to the Big League.

Edy Tavares back to the NBA soon? Selon BasketNewsthe Real Madrid interior has received a multi-year contract offer from the Blazers.

Aged 31, the MVP of the last EuroLeague Final Four might therefore return to the Great League, almost ten years following his Draft. He was drafted 43rd by the Hawks in 2014 but only played a handful of games (13 total) with Atlanta and Cleveland between 2015 and 2017.

The biggest obstacle to his transfer is the massive amount of the “buyout” imposed by his club Real Madrid, which was included in a five-year contract signed in 2019. According to BasketNews, this clause would be even higher than the 6 million euros that Facundo Campazzo had to pay in 2020 to obtain his transfer to the Nuggets.

Willy Hernangomez as a replacement?

The two parties are therefore still far from having reached an agreement because the NBA franchises can only give 825,000 dollars to release a player from his contract in another league, the rest being the responsibility of the player…

The Blazers would still remain interested because selon OregonLive, the pivot might provide circle protection to the Oregon franchise, as a starter or substitute. A dimension all the more important if the Blazers were to transfer the current holder, Jusuf Nurkic, in the wake of Damian Lillard.

If Edy Tavares leaves, Willy Hernangomez, whose rights Real Madrid owns in Spain, might be his potential replacement.
