Almost a week following the Free Agency market opened, there are still a few interesting free agents in the market. We think in particular of the young Bulls player Ayo Dosunmu, who would interest the Toronto Raptors.
The Bulls have extended several players since the start of the Free Agency, but Ayo Dosunmu is not one of them. While Nikola Vucevic and Coby White landed new contracts, the one fresh out of his second NBA season remains a restricted free agent for now, and obviously there’s a team across the US border that’s interested in his services.
According to Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sportsthe Toronto Raptors are indeed keeping tabs on the 23-year-old point guard/back.

It’s not very surprising to see the Dinos interested in a playmaker, they who have just lost Fred VanVleet to the Free Agency (as well as Dalano Banton). For the moment, they have only recruited Dennis Schroder to try to compensate for the departure of FVV, which is – we must admit – quite weak. So while 2022 Rookie of the Year Scottie Barnes may have more responsibility as a point guard next season, a bit of depth clearly wouldn’t hurt.
This is how Ayo Dosunmu seems to be establishing himself as a real option for the Dinos in the lead, even if he has mainly played at fullback for the Bulls so far. During his first two NBA seasons, the child from Chicago has established himself as a member who counts in Billy Donovan’s rotation, playing 157 games, including 91 as a starter for almost 27 minutes of play per night. He’s averaging 8.7 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.9 assists and almost an interception in his young career, shooting more than 50 percent.
Ayo had notably made a name for himself during his rookie campaign, where he had helped the Bulls achieve a great first part of the season until becoming the darling of the United Center. His sophomore season was a little more complicated, he notably lost playing time following the arrival of Pat Beverley in February.

His primarily defensive profile and his qualities as a finisher near the circle correspond in any case to the Raptors DNA. Admittedly, his outside shot scares no one (34.4% from 3-point career), and he still has a lot to learn at the highest level in terms of decision-making. But he manages quite well to limit the waste for a young player and can only progress in the coming seasons.
If the Raptors decide to make an offer to Ayo Dosunmu and the latter chooses to accept it, the Bulls will have 24 hours to line up (or not). With the arrival of veteran point guard Jevon Carter in Chicago, perhaps Ayo’s future is somewhere other than his hometown…
