On July 6, the Japan Automobile Dealers Association and the National Light Motor Vehicle Association Federation announced the ranking of new car sales by car name for the first half of 2023 (January to June 2023). In the first half of 2023, Toyota’s “Yaris” will be the top passenger car, and Honda Motor’s “N-BOX” will be the top light vehicle.

The top 3 passenger cars in the first half of 2022 are Toyota Yaris with 97,421 units (119.4% compared to the previous year), Toyota Corolla with 82,374 units (116% compared with the previous year), and Toyota Sienta in 3rd place. 67,344 units (260.4% year-on-year).

The top 3 light vehicles are Honda N-BOX with 112,248 units (108% compared to the previous year), Daihatsu Tanto with 80,85 units (181.2% compared with the previous year), and Daihatsu Move in 3rd place. 62,091 units (146.1% compared to the previous year). In addition, looking at the ranking of minicars, Suzuki “Jimny” ranked 11th with 20,110 units (91.9% compared to the previous year). The Jimny was ranked 10th in the mini car ranking in June.
