Arbitration updates: Players negotiating new agreements with their teams

2023-07-05 21:34:00

Twenty-two players will resort to arbitration to negotiate a new agreement with their respective teams.

No Montreal Canadiens player is on the list released Wednesday.

Among the restricted free agents identified, goaltender Ilya Samsonov will go to arbitration with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Russian had a good showing last season, but he struggled in the playoffs with a 3.13 goals- once morest-average and .898 save percentage. After his injury, it was young Joseph Woll who took over to end the series once morest the Florida Panthers, who caused their elimination in the second round. The other main goalkeeper, Matt Murray, is still under contract until the end of the 2023-2024 season.

Another doorman, Jeremy Swayman, is part of the lot with the Boston Bruins, three of whose players will go through arbitration.

Although Linus Ullmark got the majority of the workload as No. 1, Swayman posted excellent stats as a runner-up at the age of 24, with a 2.27 mba and .920 shooting efficiency. 37 games, now a 24-6-4 record. This shocking duo won the William-M.-Jennings Trophy thanks to their prowess in front of the net by having allowed the fewest goals in the regular season.

Another name to highlight is that of 25-year-old goalkeeper Filip Gustavsson, in the Minnesota Wild clan. Acquired in July 2022 in the trade that sent Cam Talbot to Ottawa, Gustavsson proved he was a good starter by alternating the job with Marc-André Fleury. He went 22-9-7 with a 2.10 GAA and .931 save percentage. It was he who got the mandate to face the Dallas Stars in the first round of playoffs rather than the Quebec veteran, making his playoff debut in the NHL.

Troy Terry of the Anaheim Ducks is also in the process. He had a meteoric rise with the Ducks in the 2021-22 season. In the previous campaign, he had seven goals and 20 points in 48 games. He followed that up with a season of 37 goals and 30 assists in 75 games.

Last season, the 25-year-old forward scored 23 goals and 61 points in 70 games. Terry has just finished a three-year contract which earned him $1.45 million annually.

The deadline for filing a request for arbitration is set for July 6, while the hearings will take place from July 20 to August 4. However, this does not prevent a player from concluding an agreement with the club by then.
