Pickup will be exhibited for the first time at the São Paulo Japan Festival, from July 7th to 9th
From the 14th to the 16th of July, it is Japan House São Paulo’s turn to expose the pickup truck to visitors
RIO DE JANEIRO – With a unique and striking design, synonymous with robustness, confidence and grandeur, the Nissan Frontier has just won a special painting in honor of Japanese culture. The project, which unites icons of Japanese culture in a contemporary style, was applied to a real unit of the Nissan pickup truck and will be one of the highlights of the Nissan stand at the Japan Festival, one of the biggest events for the Japanese community in Brazil, which has starting next Friday, July 7th, in São Paulo.
The art is the result of the 3rd edition of the Nissan Academic Design Contest, which challenged students from all over Brazil to pay homage to Japanese culture using their pickup truck as their “canvas”. The author of the chosen project was Eric Lauredo Belfort Wolter, an Industrial Design student at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ).
“The whole idea came from a great deal of reflection on the concept of culture. I noticed that, almost as a rule, people associate the culture of a country with what is classic, ancient. Just like the Nissan pickup, I wanted to freshen it up,” she explains. Eric used in his concept several Japanese icons in a kind of mural, in a contemporary style, like street art. “Then I drew a parallel with the Great Wave. Just like her, culture is in constant movement”, adds the student.
After the Japan Festival, the next stop on the “most Japanese” Frontier in Brazil is the Japan House – São Paulo, an international initiative with the aim of expanding knowledge regarding current Japanese culture and publicizing government policies. The car with the winning art of the contest will be displayed in the space located on Avenida Paulista from July 14th to 16th, Friday to Sunday.
