Apple is making eyes at video game developers

With the tool presented by Apple at WWDC, Macs are hosting more and more Windows games. And the results shown are very promising.

Macs have never been the most suitable platforms for playing video games, but the arrival of Apple Silicon SoCs in recent years tends to change the situation. More powerful and versatile, apple computers are becoming true all-purpose machines, so much so that Apple wants to transform them into gaming machines.

From there to Macs being the ideal platform to play, there is a step. But Apple presented at WWDC a tool, called Game Porting Toolkit, supposed to help developers port their games present on Windows to macOS. The tool is intended for developers, but anyone who knows how to use it can use it. And with the latest update released by Apple, the result is stunning.

Several big games have thus been tested on macOS by the Youtuber Andrew Tsai with results approaching those of a gaming PC under Windows. Cyberpunk 2077, however reputed to be very greedy, reaches 40 FPS under an M1 Max chip.

Under the same SoC, Elden Ring keeps a constant frame rate of 32 FPS. Finally, games that were previously not compatible, such as Resident Evil 2 or Horizon Zero Dawn, are finally compatible.
