Union organizations of teachers from the City of Buenos Aires rejected tonight the announcement of the Buenos Aires government that it will reward those who have not carried out strikes during the first semester of 2023 and will be financed with the proceeds from the discounts made “to education workers who have exercised their right to strike.
As it transpired the bonus would be around 60 thousand pesos.
Through a statement from the Ministry of Education headed by Soledad Acuña, it was reported that the city will recognize “teachers with perfect attendance” with “discounted money from strikers.”
“Those who have not missed the first semester will receive an additional sum of up to 60,000 pesos. The measure reaches 72% of state-run teachers,” they indicated and detailed that the recognition will be for “some 35,000 teachers from state-run schools who did not have unjustified absences during the first six months of the year.”
Meanwhile, from Ademys they pointed out that “it is a measure that is given within the framework of the electoral campaign” and that it has “a lot of political miserability.”
In statements to Télam, trade union leader Jorge Adaro pointed out that Minister Acuña “announces a measure that no one is going to charge.”
“It is an attack on a fundamentally female union,” he stressed, noting that it is also “ideological in its intention to divide teaching.”
From the Union of Education Workers (UTE), they indicated that “tonight the City Government announced the payment of a one-time bonus to those teachers who did not carry out strikes, who did not get sick and who did not have daughters / I or family members sick in this first semester “.
“The payment would be financed with discounts to education workers who exercised their right to strike,” they added.
And they considered that “this announcement means another direct attack on the workers’ organization, an attempt to intimidate teachers and the unity built in the heat of the fight in defense of public education for all.”
“With this new measure (the head of the Buenos Aires government, Horacio Rodríguez) Larreta once once more tries to divide the teaching profession and weaken the collective claim. It will fail once more,” they stated on the UTE Twitter account.
And they completed: “The head of government assumes that everything is bought and sold, but solidarity, organization and the teachers’ struggle are not negotiated.”
