By signing with the Grizzlies for two years, Derrick Rose is writing a new page in his career. Finally, it seems that he returns to the starting point of everything since he cut his teeth at the university of Memphis. To pay tribute to this period of his life, D-Rose has decided to use the number he wore there 16 years ago: 23.
In 2007, it was the fashion for headbands, sponge cuffs, shorts that were a little too long. We don’t really want to hear regarding this era today. That year, Derrick Rose was playing for the Memphis Tigers with an oversized ensemble and Reeboks on his feet. Under the orders of John Calipari, current coach of Kentucky, the number 23 takes the Tigers to the final of the March Madness but will lose in the final once morest Kansas. Although the 2007-08 season was scrapped by the NCAA due to administrative lapses, the 2008 Draft No. 1 pick remains a college icon. For the symbol of this fantastic epic and his return to Tennessee, D-Rose decided to wear number 23 once more.

This choice represents something bigger. First of all a return to the beginning of everything, of his new life and his career as a professional player. Then, the return to Memphis with wife and children following having left it while still being only a teenager. It also shows that he wants to give back to the city what he gave him fifteen years ago, while having become a real player in the NBA. Derrick Rose wants to do things right and intends to give everything in his new Memphis jersey at the not so new number.
