Fatal Beating on Fish Market Quay: Soldiers Arrested in Tournai

It was learned on Tuesday that the person who was badly beaten during the night of June 19 to 20, along the quays, unfortunately died of his serious injuries. The man, a 37-year-old from Tournai, was beaten up by two soldiers on the Fish Market quay on Tuesday, June 20, shortly before one in the morning. Three soldiers who were training in logistics at the barracks in Tournai were involved in the fight that took place on the public highway, but only two of them had struck blows.

The three soldiers had entered one of the establishments on the wharf to have a drink. For an undetermined reason, the owner of the establishment would have refused to serve the trio. Leaving the bar, the three men had an altercation with a passerby. A violent fight ensued during which the victim was beaten by two of the three soldiers. The man, who was going to be taken care of by the emergency services of the Wapi zone, was inanimate.

After fleeing, the three soldiers were pursued and quickly arrested by the police in the Tournaisis area.

According to the first elements of the investigation, a dispute between the protagonists regarding women would be at the origin of the facts.

The arrest warrant, issued on June 21, was confirmed by the Mons council chambers, Éric Delhaye, divisional King’s prosecutor in Tournai, recalled on Tuesday: “Following the death of the victim, the arrest warrant for the two men will probably be reclassified by the council chamber, in murder or for intentional bodily injury resulting in death, without intention to give it. »

In the followingmath of this violent attack, the facts were strongly condemned by the Tournaisian Ludivine Dedonder, Minister of Defense. This had announced the suspension, provisional, of the three suspects, the time that the investigation determines their responsibilities.
