NEW YORK — The complete rosters of the teams in the National League and American League who will play in the 2023 All-Star Game were announced Sunday on ESPN.
Several additions to the rosters were made Tuesday: Seattle Mariners center fielder Julio Rodríguez and right-hander George Kirby, Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Wander Franco, and Houston Astros outfielder , Kyle Tucker, were added to the AL All-Star roster Tuesday as injury replacements and Pittsburgh Pirates closer David Bednar was selected to the National League squad.
Rodríguez replaced Houston outfielder Yordan Álvarez; Kirby will fill in for Tampa Bay lefty Shane McClanahan; and Franco will fill in for Yankees slugger Aaron Judge. Tucker for his part fills in for Angels center fielder Mike Trout.
Bednar takes the place of Dodgers lefty Clayton Kershaw.
Rodriguez, Tucker and Bednar will be part of their second All-Star Game, while Kirby will participate for the first time.
Franco, also a first-time All-Star, was benched two games last month because of his response in a sticky situation that he believed led to his not being selected for the game.
“Well at first I thought it was due to behavior which I believed was the reason I wasn’t named but I kept my head up and thank God I’m in it,” he said.
