Update (7/4/2023) – RS
the portable console ROG Ally and ASUS got a new one firmware update to resolve another issue reported by users. According to complaints, the device was damaging microSD cards due to overheating. Therefore, the update turns to control the temperature of the device.
The reason for this type of problem to be happening is due to the fact that the input for the cards is located next to the console’s air outlet. Thus, the region tends to be very hot, especially when the product is under more intense conditions of use.

Users who have experienced this problem have reported that the situation happens even when the ROG Ally is in other usage modes than Turbo, which in theory is what demands the most from the device. As a result, the cards suddenly stop responding.
Despite this, microSD cards continue to function normally when connected to other devices such as Windows PCs. However, the files inside the item are no longer accessible. So, the new firmware made available by ASUS aims to alleviate this problem with the products.
Having trouble getting my SD card out of the ROG Ally so I can pack the whole thing back up and return it. Decided to just run a game on it for awhile since the extreme heat near the SD card slot eventually pushes the card out on its own.

For this, the portable console starts to rotate its fans with greater speed. However, it is possible that this action causes the device to emit more noise during operation. In any case, this is still treated as a temporary solution and it is recommended that ROG Ally owners avoid situations that require a lot of performance from the device.
It is expected that the update does not worsen product performance, as happened before. Finally, check out the stress test the console passed, as well as the teardown that showed off its modular internals.

The firmware update that was made available for the ROG Ally and ASUS did not deliver on the brand promise. As you may already know, the update that brings the BIOS 319 for the handheld console aimed to improve its performance at lower TDPs, in addition to increase autonomy time.
What you see, however, is the opposite, with the device suffering a drop in performance compared to previous versions. This information comes from youtubers The Phawx e Hothardwarewho did tests and showed the results with worse numbers.

That said, the new update not only failed to improve performance at 9W TDP, but also worsened the performance of the model at 15W and 25W. The reason for this may be due to the reduction in the operating frequencies of the AMD CPU that equips the device.
ASUS itself, in turn, has already reported that a fix for this problem is under development, in addition to stating that users can skip this latest update. Those who have already updated the device can opt for the downgrade through the AITS EZ Flashdespite being something that not everyone knows how to do.
The ROG Ally recently went on sale with three months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. Among the highlights, it is worth mentioning the 7-inch screen with a refresh rate of 120 Hz, in addition to the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme chip, Wi-Fi 6E support, 16GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage.

A ASUS released a new firmware for the ROG Ally that improved the autonomy of the device. At least, that’s what the company’s marketing director claims, Victor Fuin an interview for the portal The Verge. According to him, the company will always act by listening to the community:
The whole team is involved in all community discussions on all different subreddits, all major forums, Facebook groups, Discord, WhatsApp groups. We’re trying to find out what the end user and the fans think. […] We’re all big fans of Valve and we’re all big fans of Steam Deck as well because they’re the hub of the PC gaming industry, we’re trying to keep up with all the ROG Ally supporters we have: we won’t let them down.
According to Fu, the ASUS device has autonomy between 10% to 20% greater compared to the previous versions of the portable console that arrived for press review. It is worth remembering that the update also brought performance improvements to the device in games with lower TDP.
The company’s marketing director also stated that the team spent a lot of time analyzing problems and seeking solutions. In this sense, there was a greater focus on issues such as the performance of the model at 15 and 30 watts. On the other hand, there was a lack of greater care in checking consumption at lower powers.

With the new firmware, however, that seems to have changed and according to Fu, the user even gets the option to disable some Ryzen Z1 cores in exchange for better battery performance, despite the possibility of this function reducing performance in games.
Anyway, the ROG Ally is scheduled to launch on June 13th and for now, it is in the pre-order phase. Finally, the game Ratchet and Clank: In Another Dimension is one of the titles that will be optimized for the portable and also for the Steam Deck.
