We know a little more today, a week following the fire that broke out at the Flône school, regarding the reasons for this impressive news story… Last Wednesday, it was 8:25 a.m., before the bell rang marking the start of classes, when the fire alarm sounded in the Flône school. Very quickly, the establishment’s officials realized that this was not an exercise, given the thick smoke that emanated from building A but also the flames that rose behind the office. Just as quickly, the evacuation of 1,120 secondary school students and 480 elementary school children was ordered while the emergency services were called. The evacuation plan was triggered and the children were “exfiltrated” to the municipal administration without anyone, at the time, being able to explain the reasons for this fire.
However, this had not escaped anyone: the students had been in exams since the beginning of the week. And that’s apparently what motivated one of them, a 15-year-old boy. As La Libre reveals, this teenager wanted to impress his girlfriend by saving them from taking the Dutch exam scheduled for that morning. The teenager “is a quiet boy who has never had a problem with the law”, we explain. His girlfriend challenged him to do something. “super cool”, he took her at her word and wanted to show her that he might play tough. Fortunately, his stupidity did not have disastrous consequences, there were no injuries but major material damage however.
What happened ? The teenager arrived at school with a can of gasoline. Apparently he wanted to pour only a few drops except that the whole can probably went there by accident. A few sparks and everything ignited. While the boy didn’t confess to being the cause of the fire, his girlfriend bragged regarding her boyfriend’s exploits to all her girlfriends. And it came back to adult ears. The young man was arrested but initially denied everything. Before going to the police a few days later with his parents and confessing everything… The teenager will not be placed in IPPJ, he has denounced himself, it is already a good step but it will not exempt him from his responsibilities. And if not him, at least his parents. Because the fire ravaged several premises, including the commissary. In addition to the movement of the firefighters… And the Dutch exam? He and his girlfriend will not escape it…
