Óscar, Álex, Paola Virginia, Damián, Manuel and Aroa ended the first year of the upper cycle of Telecommunications and computer systems, better known as the “teleco” FP, at the CIFP A Farixa. They just won the Teleco Olympics National Award in the original proposal category: they dared with a storm tank, coordinated by Professor Ricardo Ameijeiras. “For us it was a novelty and now we are experts,” says Damián. The group wants to improve the project, for which Viaqua has already been interested: they lent it the facilities to carry out tests.
More than a thousand students from all over Spain demonstrated their creativity in the first edition of the contest. The student project, titled “Sensorization of storm tanks and previous collectors”, was the winner by demonstrating “the effective integration of telecommunications in the achievement of the sustainable development objective of the 2030 Agenda”.
The young people developed two Arduino boards, which emit and receive data. The system makes it possible to measure the volume of water in storm tanks, sending this information to a receiver in the city’s pumping center. The innovative solution facilitates preventive control once morest floods or extreme weather events. The director of the center, José Manuel Paredes, is “proud” of the project and defends “the educational community involved in the transmission of knowledge between the good school system and the environment”.
Damián Cuquejo points out the benefits of the cycle. “He has many outings, last summer I already worked and this summer I’m going back to work. Last year they wanted me to stay at the company”, says the student. For now, he wants to finish the second course of the cycle and improve the project that has given them victory.
