“Lebanese Debate”

Former Interior Minister Marwan Charbel asserts that “there is no difficult security situation,” and he attributes the reason for this to the fact that “the majority of citizens are in a difficult economic situation, and their money has been looted, and they are unable to treat their children in case they become ill, and the employee’s pension is not equal to 50 dollars.” .

Accordingly, Charbel asks: “Who will fight once morest whom, and who will be once morest whom?” stressing that “there is no fear of war, especially since there is no willingness at home, even by the parties.”

Here, Charbel cites the incident of Bcharre, pointing out in an interview with the “Lebanese Debate” to “the condemnation of the incident, and even the people of Qaasifrin declared mourning with the people of Bcharre, which means that this issue is being dealt with at the judicial level, and this is what everyone demanded, even the families of the victims.” Those who called on the judiciary to reveal the circumstances of the crime as soon as possible, and to arrest the criminal by the security services,” noting that “it is difficult for things to develop more than that.”

He also explains that “it is not the time that they have been different since 30 years ago when the water was drawn. The people of Bsharri consider it to belong to them, while the people of Baqaasfrin consider it to be theirs, and the file has been for more than two years with the judiciary in Tripoli. Here, the Lebanese state must hasten to resolve the dispute, so the state’s failure is What got us here and these problems?

Charbel also points out that “if we wanted to ask regarding the number of crimes recently, the answer for the security services is that crimes decreased this month compared to last month, such as thefts, kidnappings, etc., and even the army is carrying out its duties to the fullest.”

According to Charbel, “even those abroad would prefer that the situation be stable in Lebanon, especially in light of the presence of two and a half million Syrians in Lebanese territory.” Therefore, he considers that “all these factors call for calm.”

However, Charbel believes that “while there is security, it is true, but what we lack is safety,” as he considers that there is a difference between security and safety. Security exists and the security services carry out their duties, but security means the citizen’s survival in constant fear, so we no longer have a sense of safety.

Here, he stresses “the need for politicians and rulers to rush to elect a president of the republic as soon as possible, and to form a government in order to reassure the citizen more.”

It criminalizes that “there is no fear of divorce from any security breach, as the army and security forces are ready, despite all the difficult social conditions. The state is still steadfast because of the security services.”
